Removing Barriers to Justice

The Philadelphia Bar Foundation is the only foundation in our city dedicated to civil legal aid. We provide unrestricted grants and vital support to nearly 40 nonprofits that help tens of thousands of people face poverty, abuse, and discrimination each year.

Why it matters: Philadelphia has the highest poverty rate of any large U.S. city, yet only 1 in 5 low-income residents gets the legal help they need. Every $1 invested in legal aid creates an $11 return for individuals, families, and communities.

By sustaining our legal aid partners, we make sure that everyone has a fair chance at justice—regardless of income, background, or circumstances.
