Impact
The Philadelphia Bar Foundation is the only foundation in our city fully dedicated to strengthening civil legal aid. Our work goes beyond grantmaking—we remove barriers to justice, engage the legal community, and build long-term capacity for the organizations that serve people in need.
Removing Barriers to Justice
Most low-income families in Philadelphia do not get the legal help they need for serious issues in their lives. This lack of access limits their ability to protect their rights and participate fully in our community. The nonprofits we support provide vital services that close this gap. Our unrestricted grants give them the flexibility to respond to urgent needs, support advocacy, and cover critical operating costs.
Engaging the Legal Community
Since 1964, we have brought lawyers, law firms, businesses, and community members together to stand behind civil legal aid. We raise awareness, inspire charitable giving, and promote pro bono service. Through fellowships, training, awards, and recognition, we help grow the next generation of public interest leaders and celebrate those who make a difference.
Building System-Wide Capacity
With decades of experience, we have a unique view of the legal aid movement. We identify common challenges, connect partners, and direct resources where they are needed most. By strengthening the entire system, we help ensure that more Philadelphians can access justice—now and in the future.
