Inaugural International Law Lyon Fellowship Awarded

The International Law Lyon Internship (ILLI) Fund awarded its first fellowship to Penn Law student Andrew J. Timmick.

In 2018, the Philadelphia Bar Association International Law Committee and the Philadelphia Bar Foundation established the ILLI Fund to provide stipends to Philadelphia area law students who participate in the Philadelphia Bar Association – Lyon, France Bar Association exchange program. Previously, rising 2Ls performing internships in Lyon during the summer were not financially suported by the Philadelphia Bar Association. The ILLI Fund was chartered in hopes of making the Lyon Internship more attractive to a broader, more diverse pool of applicants.

Andrew is a second year law student at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. This summer, he will intern at Lamy Lexel, a French law firm. After returning to Philadelphia, Andrew will share his observations about how the Lyon Bar addresses issues related to access to justice, and the ways in which the Lyon Bar supports legal aid for people struggling with poverty, abuse, and discrimination.

Several French law students also come to Philadelphia to undertake six-month internships with law firms, as well as with companies and judges. Over the years, a total of approximately 75 lawyers and law students have participated in this program as interns.

If you would like to support the ILLI Fund, you can make a secure donation through the Philadelphia Bar Foundation website. Please be sure to select “International Law Lyon Internship Fund” as your gift designation.
