Philadelphia Bar Foundation Launches Emergency Funding to Civil Legal Aid Nonprofits in Response to Government Reductions
PHILADELPHIA — In the face of sweeping government funding cuts and reductions, the Board of Trustees of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation is stepping up to provide critical, additional support to its nonprofit partners for 2025 – and 2026, if necessary.
In an extraordinary move, the Foundation has authorized a supplemental distribution of an additional 2% ($119,000) from its Board-Directed Investment Funds to ensure that regional civil legal aid nonprofits, who provide crucial services to some of Philadelphia’s most vulnerable residents, can continue delivering these vital services amid mounting challenges and reductions in government funding.
“These supplemental grants are intended to help organizations remain resilient and responsive to urgent community needs,” said Niki T. Ingram, Esq., President of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation. “This emergency funding is in addition to the Bar Foundation’s regular annual grant-making and underscores our deep commitment to ensuring equal and equitable access to justice across the Philadelphia region, regardless of income, background, or zip code.”
Who is Eligible? Supplemental grants are available to civil legal aid nonprofits that:
- are current nonprofit partners of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation
- have lost or anticipate losing at least one-third of their funding due to government cuts
- provide civil legal services primarily in Philadelphia
